You know what happens when you watch HGTV, peruse pinterest and have a handy husband? You start dreaming. And I CANNOT stop dreaming about having my own "She Shed". I even have the perfect spot picked out on our property, close enough for bathroom breaks but far enough away to fight the urge to play with my boys instead of work. Let me make sure I didn't lose some of you when I said She Shed. Ha, tongue twister! Are you familiar with the Tiny House movement? If not you can catch up here. An offshoot of the movement is the She Shed. Whether you need a place to work, read, sleep, de-stress, create, write or play, it's a perfect place to do it. Of course it technically doesn't have to be a she, it can be a he as well, but I want to talk about the Shes!
So what do you need to get started? I'm going to go over the basics and let you know how you can create a special space all to yourself!
Let's start with the purpose. What do you want to use your she shed for? Maybe you need a space to go and relax alone with a good book and some quiet time. Maybe an art studio that you can get messy in without feeling guilty. Or maybe you are going to start working from home and lack the space. There are so many possibilities and it's all about you! When I get mine, it's going to be half art studio and half office. Or maybe something just like this....
You need a shed! I know what you're thinking already, we don't have a ton of money to invest in a shed right now. But, they don't have to be a huge investment. Check out this option from Home Depot. And if you have a bit more to spend, how about this.....so cute to start with!! You wouldn't even have to paint it.
And don't forget, you may already have a shed. Sure you might have to put some shelves in the garage to clean it out, but to start it just has to be empty, not pretty!
How will you make it your own? This is YOUR space, make it you! You can buy brand new items, go thrifting or build what you need. Or maybe you have furniture currently unused in your own home already. Whatever you want in there is a-ok if it helps you relax and clear your head. I'm thinking you need a comfortable space with a lounge chair and soft lighting. Shoot, you can put a bed in here people, a bed! Maybe it's a NAP Shed! I'm halfway off to dreamland just looking at this picture.
So lastly, what colors and finishes are you going to use? Most sheds will be fairly bare to start with but it won't take much to make it magical. You can paint the interior or leave it bare. And though you can put down a floating floor, maybe just paint some plywood? Consider a soft neutral palette to give an overall airy, serene space. Or what do you think about something like this? Maybe try something you wouldn't do in your home!
Or perhaps something with a cool palette bringing in some garden or jewel tones. I'm loving these grays with the purple!
So now that the weather is getting warm and it's still light out at 8pm, will I be seeing you out in your she shed? I sure hope so!
See you next month!
